
Nyu Nyu graduated from Parkhill High School and Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Her sociology background has provided her with a strong foundation in understanding systemic inequities and structural factors that contribute to economic and racial disparities. Nyu Nyu has her background in community organizing, policy advocacy, and research she brings unique combination of skills and experience to this program. Kelvin previously served as a Project Specialist for McKesson Medical-Surgical DC in Kansas City, MO, but recently returned to Northwest Missouri State University to complete his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology. He graduated from Liberty High School. Kelvin founded SSYT because one of his primary goals is to expand mental health information to individuals in need. A quote he lives by is, “Growth isn’t a constant ascent. It’s a dance of steps forward, back, and sideways.” Kelvin is a huge sports fan, particularly basketball, football, and soccer.

Ituwa is a Health Promotion Specialist who is dedicated to improving the health of under-served communities. She participated in developing SSYT because she is passionate about serving her community and supporting South Sudanese youth. She believes mental health is the foundation of overall wellness. After graduating from Winnetonka High School, Ituwa earned a bachelor's degree in health sciences and a master's degree in healthcare administration. In her spare time, Ituwa enjoys traveling, watching movies, and working out.

Esther currently works in education and coaches track and field at Winnetonka High School where she attended. Esther studied Elementary Education at Park University. She values mental health and community which is why she sought the opportunity to start SSYT. Esther also has a heart to service young people in her community and create a safe environment for them to be authentically themselves. In her free time, she enjoys working out, running, hanging out with her friends, and traveling.

Emma is a digital media specialist and creative dedicated to community and Black liberation. She founded SSYT because she believes talking about mental health is how we heal, and she wants young people to feel heard and supported. Emma graduated from Winnetonka High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. As a journalist, she reported on mental health in the South Sudanese community, criminal justice, immigration, and affordable housing. Now, Emma produces videos, designs, and social media strategies to engage and educate audiences. In her free time, she loves to travel and learn new things!

Achol is currently working in education as a substitute teacher in the North Kansas City School District. She graduated from Oak Park High School and received a Bachelors in Social Work from Missouri State University. She helped found South Sudan YouThrive because she believes the youth in the community deserve a space to be youth and to have access to resources past generations did not get a chance to have. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her friends, cooking, and trying new things.
